Basic SWAT is a 5-day, 45-hour foundational course for active-duty law enforcement officers assigned to tactical units, focusing on core principles of team-based tactical movement, warrant service, barricade resolution, and hostage rescue.

Basic SWAT is a 5-day, 45-hour foundational course for active-duty law enforcement officers assigned to tactical units, focusing on core principles of team-based tactical movement, warrant service, barricade resolution, and hostage rescue.
Basic SWAT is designed for active-duty law enforcement officers assigned to a tactical team or units that are tasked with executing high risk warrant service, barricade resolution and hostage rescue. This class will cover the basic knowledge required for members of tactical teams and lay a foundation of tactical movement in the team environment. All students will be required to meet the following prerequisite prior to acceptance, Proof of these will be mandatory:
The student must submit a letter on department letterhead from their respective team leader or commander confirming the following:
The student is currently assigned to a tactical response team or unit tasked with conducting tactical operations.
The student has qualified with a minimum score of 90% on the Georgia State Firearms Qualification or established team qualification on all weapons platforms assigned.
This course is tailored for team-based armed professionals who already have a solid foundation in firearms handling and decision-making abilities. Basic SWAT focuses on implementing and enhancing individual operator skills for domestic law enforcement operations in the tactical environment.
Students must pass by demonstrating both individual and team-based practical skills learned throughout the course. Upon completion of the course and passing the skills assessment, students will receive a certificate certifying them as an entry level SWAT Operator.
